First released in Japan in 1974 as Microman, the Micronauts toys were imported to the U.S. by the Mego Corporation two years later. The mythology was then expanded in a Marvel Comics series, beginning in 1979 where writer Bill Mantlo re-imagined the team as subatomic explorers in the Microverse. This comic series saw a number of characters introduced into the Marvel canon, some of which are still being used today. Director James Gunn also previously revealed a desire to use the Micronauts character Bug for the 2014 feature film of “Guardians, ” but he was denied access to the character as the rights had stayed with Hasbro.

Subsequent takes on the property were offered in comic book form by Image Comics and Devil’s Due Publishing with each iteration offering very different takes on the toy universe. There is not yet word on whether any of those specific takes will influence the feature film version.

First announced for development nearly six years ago, Micronauts movie will be produced by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Paramount. Previous drafts were written by Deadpool and Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Hasbro Talk New Hasbro Cinematic Universe at the Hasbro Toy Fair and Investors Event today

While very Transformers-centric, they did showcase an image for their upcoming Hasbro Cinematic Universe brands. These include:

Micronauts
GI Joe
M.A.S.K.
Visionaries

The announcement was accompanied by our first look at key art for a few of these. While we don’t expect toys for these to be revealed this weekend, this is an indicator of what to expect in the near future from Hasbro!

Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner had this to say:

“Hasbro’s great brands G. I. Joe, Micronauts, ROM, M.A.S.K and Visionaries. Paramount and Hasbro’s AllSpark Pictures are producing these films which will develop deep stories and great characters as we imagine the future of these brands.”

It seems as though the future of the above franchises depends on the success of upcoming movies.

After they announced their massive Hasbro Cinematic Universe, it was inevitable to start hearing news on some of the assorted properties. Hasbro has kicked things off with new Micronauts trademarks. From the looks of it, Micronauts is set to get a major licensing push. The new trademarks cover some of the following:

Bath Products & Linens

Needless to say, not all of these will definitely happen. This is Hasbro covering their bases so they can produce a variety of licensed products, or license them out to other companies to produce.
